THE MOST SOUGHT-AFTER CLASSIC AMERICAN CARS
LIST OF THE MOST POPULAR BRANDS AND MODELS
American car models have been making us dream for over a century. But perhaps you are less familiar with the brands and American cars? After all, we live in a part of the world where these cars are less common.
We sometimes see them in movies, series, or coming out of barns, but not really in our daily life.
Yet, there is no shortage of brands since the 1900s. Some brands have stopped production or merged with others:
- Oldsmobile, from 1896 to 2004;
- Pontiac, from 1926 to 2009;
- Desoto, from 1928 to 1960;
- Continental, from 1955 to 1957;
- American Motors, from 1967 to 1987;
- Eagle, from 1987 to 1998;
- Saturn, from 1990 to 2009.
Other brands still produce today:
- Cadillac, since 1902;
- Buick, since 1903;
- Ford, since 1903;
- Chevrolet, since 1912;
- Dodge, since 1914;
- Chrysler, since 1924;
- Jeep, since 1963;
- Acura, since 1986.
On American roads, you also find other international brands, such as Toyota from Japan. In any case, it’s clear that some of these brands have truly left their mark on American automotive history.
VINTAGE AMERICAN CAR MODELS
If you are a classic car enthusiast and appreciate the distinctive style of American vehicles, you probably know what we are talking about here. These classic American cars are among the treasures of vintage automobiles, rare on this side of the globe.
Yet, they alone represent a era, a golden age:
- The Chevrolet Corvette;
- The Jeep Wrangler;
- The Cadillac Eldorado;
- The Dodge Charger…
But also one model we will highlight today, as it is our latest new arrival you can try directly on the roads of Provence: the Ford Mustang!

DRIVING A VINTAGE AMERICAN CAR
Innovation, style, aesthetics, but also performance… American car brands competed for many years. The goal? To integrate the conquering American spirit into a car. To infuse freedom and practicality directly under the hood. To showcase the power of the American automotive industry.
This is generally what enthusiasts appreciate about retro American car models. While some fans of the 1950s or 60s love British roadsters, others are easily captivated by the big American engines, robust and sleek.
It is also for this reason that we have sought to offer you a model of classic Ford Mustang for your events, weddings, or road trips in Provence.
THE MUST-CHOOSE CLASSIC AMERICAN CAR
THE FORD MUSTANG
The Ford Mustang is a car built by the Ford brand in 1964. At the time, Ford was one of the largest car manufacturers in the world. The Mustang was presented in New York at the World’s Fair, aimed at attracting young Americans, the baby boomers.
The idea was that young people were tired of cars that were too heavy or massive. The brand wanted to create a sporty car similar to the Beetle, which was already very popular. However, they did not want to replicate another similar model. This is when the pony car concept emerged:
- An affordable car;
- A compact construction;
- A sporty style;
- A mechanical base similar to that of a mass-produced car.
The Ford Mustang is therefore based on the principle of a traditional two-seater coupe. To minimize the costs of developing this new vehicle, the first models were designed based on the Ford Falcon.

EVOLUTION OF THE FORD MUSTANG OVER TIME
Upon its release, this car competed with the Plymouth Barracuda, but not for long! The Mustang quickly became popular and was produced in over 10 million units. The Ford Mustang I, available as a coupe, convertible, or fastback (sportsroof), was ordered over 22,000 times on the first day of its release.
It was subsequently modified many times. The model was also updated with the Mustang II in 1974, Mustang III in 1978, Mustang IV in 1994, Mustang V in 2005, Mustang VI in 2015, and finally Mustang VII, the latest version released in 2023.
Other versions also appeared on the market, such as the Ford Mustang Shelby GT-H, Ford Mustang GT-R, and Ford Mustang Bullit, among others.
APPEARANCES IN POPULAR CULTURE
The Ford Mustang became an iconic car and appears in over 500 films.
It can be seen in movies like Le Gendarme de Saint-Tropez or Goldfinger. This car was even driven by celebrities for certain magazines: Johnny Hallyday and Claude François.
HISTORY OF THE NAME
Many wonder where the name “Mustang” comes from. There were potentially two ideas behind it. First, a reference to the wild horse, which is also the symbol chosen for the grille, a beautiful stallion galloping to the left in reference to the conquest of the West: a typically American vibe. It is one of the unique features of the Mustang family, as the vehicle does not bear the Ford logo.
The other origin comes from designer John Najjar. An admirer of the P-51 Mustang airplane, he reportedly suggested the name as co-designer of the prototype with Philip T. Clark.
