Make life easier and rent one of our vintage convertible cars. Do you have questions about renting a classic car? Today, we have gathered 8 answers to your most common questions!
1) What is a convertible?
When we talk about a convertible, most of us have a general idea in mind. We immediately picture a small road trip on a country road lined with greenery… A feeling of total freedom thanks to this small convertible car, which almost drives itself. In short, we often imagine a car that is both light, easy to handle, reliable, and above all, extremely enjoyable for a drive.
This vision aligns well with the official definition. A light, open vehicle, with two wheels or two seats, whose roof can be removed. This definition also applies to cars with a retractable roof today.
2) What is the difference between a convertible and a drop-top car?
So why do we use the term convertible and what is the difference with a drop-top car?
In the 17th century, a convertible was a two-wheeled carriage with 2 or 3 seats. A single horse was needed to pull this light carriage that had a removable roof. The roof protected passengers from the weather and could be removed during good weather.
The name of this vehicle comes from the term cabrioler, cabriole: to make small, light jumps. This evokes the airy nature of the original vehicle.
Regarding the roof, a convertible usually has a rigid roof that can be lowered or raised at the passengers’ convenience. Drop-top cars generally have a removable roof, meaning it can be completely taken off if needed. However, nowadays, the terms are close and sometimes used interchangeably by manufacturers.
3) Why rent a convertible?
Driving a convertible can be a real source of joy! Hair in the wind, drive along your favorite roads under the summer sun, and take a deep breath of fresh air. Extremely pleasant even without air conditioning on nice days, a convertible is a breeze of freshness in itself.
Besides being stylish, this type of vehicle is also very enjoyable to drive. Its compact size allows a couple to escape the daily routine. It is easy to drive thanks to its lightness and adapts to occasional rain thanks to the roof.
However, convertibles also have some drawbacks. They can be difficult to maintain, which may involve higher insurance costs. Their use is mostly occasional, as driving in winter or in rainy weather is less common. These are valid reasons to postpone buying a classic car, especially considering the potentially high cost depending on the model you desire.
If you want to enjoy a convertible occasionally and experience these unique sensations, classic car rental is the ideal solution! Fully enjoy a reliable convertible without worrying about maintenance and explore the beautiful roads of Provence in the vehicle of your choice.
